The 1825 Journey. The ship Mariner, Captain Fotherley, arrived from Ireland with female prisoners, on Sunday evening. She left the Cove of Cork, the 12th of March, and brings 112 female prisoners, having lost only one on the passage. A few passengers also came per this opportunity. Family connections for John (Turner) are: TURNER John (Turner) was born about 1793 & became a blacksmith. He was native of Liverpool, a coloured Mullato, when tried w/1other at Somerset Quarter Sessions, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 11 10 1816 after a voyage of 5months on MARINER; he was 5'4" dark brown complexion black hair black eyes. He was issued his Certificate of Freedom in February 1823. On 22 9 1823 he was tried for obtaining goods under false pretences w/1other of George Jackson (Frankland), sentenced to 7years & sent to Port Macquarie Penal Settlement as a convict with wife & child on LORD NELSON. He married firstly (1of3) Elizabeth (Humphreys) on 21 3 1825 at St Thomas CofE Port Macquarie. He was still a blacksmith in 1827 & was tried again at Sydney Criminal Court on 24 7 1828, sentenced to 3years & sent to Moreton Bay Penal Settlement on BAMBOO on 30 8 1828.>>> [Some details taken from this Website] Elizabeth (Humphreys) was born on 11 12 1795 & baptised on 8 1 1796 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She was recorded in 1828 as housekeeper at Harrington St Sydney with 3children. She died on 9 8 1830 age35 mother of maybe 4children. Married three times (1) first fleet child - Elizabeth Humphreys (1795-1830). 2. Ellen Hamer (1811-1840) 3. Mary Anne Bennett (1795-1852). Died Hobart, 1867.

John Turner was described as a,Native of Liverpool, a (man of colour), aged 23, height 5'4', complexion dark brown, hair and eyes black. He was noted as being of mixed race (Mullato). February 1823: COF John was sentenced to transportation twice more, after arriving in the Colony. 22/9/1823: In the Criminal Court Sydney John Turner, Anchor Smith, was charged with obtaining goods above the value of twelve pounds under false pretences belonging to Francis Turner from George Jackson Frankland in order to defraud the said Francis Turner. He was found guilty and sentenced to seven year transportation to such place as His Excellency the Governor shall direct for the term of Seven years. He was sent to Port Macquarie on the Lady Nelson. His wife and child were both allowed to go with him. 21/3/1825: Married Elizabeth Humphries the daughter of Edward Humphries (1st Fleet) and Mary Williams (2rd Fleet). in St Thomas Port Macquarie. They already had 2 children, Mary and John (John died in infancy). 8/10/1825: They had another son, also called John. 24/7/1828:Sydney Criminal Court John Turner was sentenced to 3 years and sent to Moreton Bay per "Borodino" on 30 August 1828. Elizabeth died in 1830. 3/12/1833: COF 11/3/1833: Permission to marry Ellen Hammer aged 20, (Roslin Castle) John was 37 (free). They had 1 child. Ellen died in 1840. John then moved to Tasmania where he married Mary Ann Bennett and produced another 6 children. 10/3/1867: John died in Hobart aged 75.
