James Veil/Vial Arrived July 1842. Prisoner No. 5947. Aged 27 Farrier/Blacksmith from Covent Gardens London. Convicted Stealing 4 books from Stockley's of Oxford Street. 7 years. 5ft3.5 inches tall, Fair skin, Sandy hair, Hazel eyes Could read and write. Ticket of leave 31/12/1847. Married Anne Kelly Geelong 1852 then moved to Ballarat. Vic BDM Death Cert 6103/1869 states Mother:Mary, Father:James, Spouse Ann Kelly. Children: Mary Ann, Ellen, James, John, Elizabeth Grace, Rose Anna and Sarah Victoria. Not to be confused with James VILE 19, Labourer from Somerset arrived 1846 on Ship Palmyra. Prisoner No. 18957 10 years for House breaking and stealing. Died Jan 1900 Bendigo Benevolent Asylum, buried White Hills Cemetery Bendigo Not to be confused with James VIAL (1825-1896) and Jane READ immigrants who arrived in 1853 on Ship Elizabeth and settled in Geelong. Children Mary Eliza, Walter, Martha, Emma, Herbert, Harry and Burchal. This James VIAL died in Murchison and was buried in Geelong 1896
