1839, 19 October: VENGEUR is on a list of prisoners sentenced for transportation per “Water Witch” from Port Louis, Mauritius, to Van Diemen’s Land by the Criminal Court of the Colony of Mauritius. He is described as: single, aged 35, a servant; tried for theft at the Assizes on 3 July, 1839, and sentenced to 10 years; copper complexion, brown eyes and short curly hair; 5'8"; native place Madagascar; cannot read or write (see New South Wales, Australia Convict Ship Muster Rolls and Related Records, 1790-1849; 1840 Layton).
