13/4/1848 Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette Somerset, England: GLOUCESTERSHIRE ASSIZES. (Continued from our last.) CROWN COURT. Highway Robbery.— James Venn, 20, was indicted for highway robbery, and for beating with intent to do some grievous bodily harm to the person of Mary Ann Loosmore. James Venn was listed as 22 years old on arrival in VDL - Native Place: Bristol. Previous convictions: for lead, 7 yrs, served 3 yrs & 11 months in 1843 at Woolwich the Justitia Hulk ; 3 months for brass. James was single, C of E, 5'4" tall, fair complexion, ?? hair, grey eyes, literate, scar on forefinger left hand. Brothers: John, Thomas, Henry, William. Sisters: Ellen, Fanny - about London. Spent 21 months at Norfolk Island. Arrived VDL per 'Seppings'. 29/12/1853: Absconded. 9/2/1855: Port Arthur. 19/1/1857: Hobart - misconduct, 3 days solitary. 25/2/1857: Absconded. 3/4/1908 The North Western Advocate, Tasmania: DEATH. VENN.— At Wilmot, James Venn, late of Dairy Plains, aged 80 years.
