Charles Vout was transported on the Andromeda, departing 13th Nov 1832 and arriving 11th Mar 1833 with 188 passengers.
Also, same day, from Cork, whence she sailed May 25th, the ship Andromeda, 401 tons, Benjamin Gales master, with 173 female prisoners; Henry Kelsawl, Esq., Surgeon-superintendant. Passengers — Fourteen free females, viz. Mary Manning, Martha Morron, Margaret Mahon, Margaret Sheedy, Mary Ann Nixon alias Welsh, Catherine Kiernan, Mary Cassock, Catherine Stanton, Johanna Neville, Mary Lyons alias Hynes, Maria Moran, Catherine O'Donnel, Margaret Kennedy, and Mary Sullivan, and twenty-six children; also twenty-three children belonging to the prisoners. Charles Vout was born 24 July 1812 and baptised 26 July 1812 in Salle, Norfolk, England. Son of Joseph Vout & Mary Adcock. Other siblings include John b1804; James b1806; Joseph b1810 & Hannah b1815




Charles was 21 years old, 5'7" tall, Protestant, ruddy complexion, brown hair, dark grey eyes, single, could read and write. From 1833-1840 his conduct record in NSW consisted of treadwheel, insolence, AWOL, absconding, irons for misconduct, 100 lashes for malingering, 6 mths in irons for theft. 6/9/1841: Tried at Maitland for attempting to murder and housebreaking, and sentenced to life in a penal settlement. 23/9/1843: Arrived in Hobart. His conduct record here continues in the same vein as in NSW right up until 1848. 16/4/1853: Unexpired portion of Norfolk Island extension remitted. 1/7/1853: Meritorious Conduct at the Bush Fires at N.W. Bay. 19/6/1855: TOL 22/7/1856: Recommended for a conditional pardon. 9/6/1857: Conditional Pardon. December 1855: Married Catherine Bryan. They had 10 children. Catherine died 21/8/1884 49 years old. 24/7/1897: Charles died aged 85 years. Charles actually served 24 years for a 7 year crime.
