The Convict records state that Matthew Wall was 25 years old. He could read and write; religion Roman Catholic and status single.  He was a native of Dublin and his occupation was a groom.  He was convicted at Tipperary on 6 April 1828 for base coin.  He was sentenced to life.  He had no prior convictions.  Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 6 1/2 inches; complexion ruddy and freckled; hair dark brown and eyes grey.  Transport number 42.
He was assigned to T. Macquoid, Sydney.  Thomas Macquoid or McQuoid was sheriff in the colony until he tragically took his own life in 1840.  He owned properties in southern NSW near Queanbeyan - Wanniassa and Freshford. Both properties are now situated in Canberra ACT.  Wanniassa is the name of one of Canberra’s suburbs.
