Henry Whatley was transported on the Lady Kennaway, departing 27th Oct 1834 and arriving 13th Feb 1835 with 307 passengers.
The 'Lady Kennaway' was built in Calcutta in 1817. A large ship of 584 tons. Transported convicted prisoners to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in 1834, via Cork, Ireland. Claims
"29 March 1833 - Henry and his brother, Charles, committed Highway Robbery against William Hopkins in March 1833. Charles was apprehended (and subsequently sentenced to life transportation- NSW) but Henry escaped after attacking the arresting constable with a knife. 15 Aug 1833 - Henry was arrested for stealing 6 hats. After he was found guilty for this offence and sentenced to 7 years transportation, it was realised that he was wanted for Highway Robbery. He was imprisoned in Dorset Gaol awaiting the trial. Jan 1834 - Henry was transferred to Worcester Gaol Mar 1834 - Henry pleaded guilty to the stabbing of Henry Merrefield (the constable) and was sentenced to death, commuted to life transportation. He was removed to the Ganymede Hulk, Woolwich, awaiting transportation. 27 Oct 1834 - Henry was transported to Van Diemen's Land on the Lady Kennaway, which departed England on 27 Oct 1834. 13 Feb 1835 - The Lady Kennaway arrived in VDL. Henry was assigned to Thomas Archer of "Woolmers" at Longford 27 Feb 1844 - Henry married fellow convict Maria Martin Worrell in Longford. Henry was granted his Ticket of Leave in 1844 and was conditional ly Pardoned in 1847 Henry died on 7 September 1890 in Longford, Tasmania. It is believed Henry and Charles never met again in Australia."
