Abigail Murphy and Catherine Ahern, for stealing a piece of Calico from Thomas Lyons & Co.—Guilty. To be transported for 7 years. One of the prisoners screeched out for her little child to accompany her to Botany Bay. The other with equal vociferation called for her Cloak which had been taken from her by the Peace-Officer. Native of Cork City. Trade - nurse girl. Catholic. DOB 1814. Government Notice. Colonial Secretary’s Office, Sydney, 14th October, 1831. THE undermentioned Female Prisoners of the Crown have obtained Tickets of Leave, in compliance with the Regulations of 17th March, 1829, for good conduct in the situations respectively stated ; viz. : — County of Cumberland. LIVERPOOL. Murphy Abbey, City of Edinburgh, in Service, Abbey Murphy was listed as 14 years old on arrival, she was 4'7¾" tall, ruddy freckled complexion, brown hair, dark grey eyes, scar on forehead where the hair divides, cocked nose. 19/11/1831: TOL, Liverpool. 6/2/1833: Permission to marry James Phillipson, aged 25, came free, Abbey was 18 and had a TOL. 1833: Married at Scot's Church, Sydney - Abbey listed as Abigail on the NSW BDM. 22/10/1833: NSW Colonial Secretary's Office: The Female Prisoner named in the margin (Abbey Murphy now Phillipson) having received the permission of the Government to proceed to Van Diemen's Land in the Jolly Gambler for the purpose of joining her husband James Phillipson.__ I have the honour by direction of Major General Bourke to annex the usual particulars of this woman and to request that as she held a Ticket of Leave in this Colony you will move his Excellency Lieutenant Governor Arthur to grant her a similar Indulgence in Van Diemen's Land. Abbey MURPHY/PHILLIPSON was convicted at City of Cork, Ireland on 7 April 1828 for shop lifting. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to New South Wales, Australia per the ship 'City of Edinburgh' 1828. Subsequently transferred to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Jolly Rambler' 1833.
