Frederick ABEL was convicted at Norwich City on 30 June 1846 for stealing - an iron pot from a brewer. Previous offence of stealing a shawl (3mths prison). 7yr transportation sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Ratcliffe' arriving 12 Nov 1848. Aged 21yrs; single; a baker and also a weaver; 5'4"; Church of England. Native Place: Norwich, England. (No details, on his Indent, of family relatives.) Assigned to work service in the Colony. Clear conduct record. Nov 1848: assigned to Mr. Alfred Bisdee, Jericho, Tasmania. 12 April 1849: on a Ticket of Leave and at Oatlands, Tasmania. 11 Jan 1853: Conditional Pardon approved. 20 July 1853: Certificate of Freedom.
