Old Bailey: WILLIAM ABEL was indicted for stealing, on the 13th of February, 1 looking-glass, value 14s., the goods of John Dodds Arderne; also, 2 bed-posts, value 20s., the goods of John Oakley; and that he had been before convicted of felony; to which he pleaded GUILTY . Aged 18.— Transported for Fourteen Years. 1843: TOL Maitland 30/9/1847:CP This William Abel seems to have no connection to the other William Abel's. William Abel Snr arrived on the Pitt and then was sent to Norfolk Island where he married Mary Ann Morey, they had William Jnr C1804, went to VDL C1808. William Jnr., was tried in Hobart on 21/4/1845 for stealing 12 head of cattle from Bryan Bennett - sentenced to Life, stated: "I came to VDL from Norfolk Island about 37 years back in the 'Porpoise', I was born there, never before a magistrate before. He married Julianna Hibbins in 1821 in Hobart, had 7 children and was a widower. Julianna died in 1833. He was sent to Norfolk Island 9/8/1845 and arrived back in VDL 31/1/1850, died in Tasmania in 1864 and was not sent to NSW.

Norfolk Island Records show William Abel Snr as re-offending but this must have been his son who was sent to NSW from Hobart. Was William Abel Jnr sent to Norfolk Island?
