Per "Larkins", 1817 1822 Aug 28 Reported as harboured by Richard Porter, shoemaker in Clarence Street, since his absence two years ago (Reel 6055; 4/1761 p.138) 1822 Nov Petitions for mitigation of sentence (Fiche 3212; 4/1864 pp.1-2) Petitions for mitigation of sentence The humble petition of Lyon Abrahams most respectfully states, That your Honours’ petitioner was tried at Kingston in March Ass 1816, and received sentence of Transportation for Life, arrived in this colony on the ship Larkins 1817 and was some time in Government Employ and through his good conduct received the Indulgence to go on his own hands by paying John Kedman, Coxton of the govt. Boat Antelope, Five shillings ??? and remainded so nearly three years. Petitioner then applied to Major Druitt, late Engineer, stating to him the length of time he had been paying for his Liberty, from whom he was informed he could not give him a Ticket of Leave but that through petitioner good character since he was on his own hands, he should give him a Pass to such time as Petitioner could procure a Ticket of Leave, with which Pass your Petitioner remained getting an honest Living through his Industry to your Honour sent for him an ordered him into Prisoner Barracks nearly 3 months back. That your Honours Petitioner most humbly and respectfully entreats you will be pleased to take his case into your Tender consideration by paying the usual sum of three shillings & six pence sterling a week and finding responsible security to fulfill the said payment quarterly. Petitioner begs also to acquaint your Honor he never was brought before a Justice of the Peace or one night in a watch house since his arrival in the Colony, and can procure certificates of good conduct from many Gentlemen in Sydney. The humble memorial of Lyon Abrahams convicted at Kingston at March assizes in the year 1817 and sentenced to transportation for life arrived in this colony per ship Larkins and have been paying (?) for the last three years, working as a labourer (?) your memorialist trusts you will be pleased to let me of the Stores, having sufficient employment to keep myself in an Honest Manner by working for most of the Merchants and Gentlemen of Sydney your petitioner has never since his arrival in this Colony had the slightest Blemish to his character should your honour be pleased to Grant me this Indulgence your petitioner will as in Duty Bound ever pray, Lyon Abrahams.

Lyon Abrahams was listed as 23 years old, 5'4½" tall, dark ruddy complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, blind in the left eye. 28/8/1822: Lyons Abrahams was a Government servant to John Kedman Coxton of the government boat 'Antilope' he had absconded for nearly 2 years, being harboured by Richard Porter, (Baring 1815) shoe maker of Clarence Street. Lyons was also Jewish. 29/12/1825 Sydney Gazette: Police Report Lyons Abrahams prisoner of the Crown charged with stealing a bag of maize containing about 3 bushels from the stores of Mr James Underwood’s premises in George Street and which grain was the property of Government was sentenced to a penal settlement for 18 months. 7/1/1826: Transported to Port Macquarie per 'Amity' for 3 years. 28/9/1827: Received and additionat sentence at Port Macquarie for 2 years. 1822 General Muster NSW: Abrahams Lyon Convict per Larkins Sentence Life Government Employ, Sydney. 1823-25 General Muster: Abrahams Lyon Convict per Larkins 1817 Sentence Life Government Employ Prisoner Barracks, Sydney. 1835: TOL, Port Macquarie 1837: TOL, Port Macquarie 1/10/1841: CP 24/11/1840: Married Catherine Redmond, 19, arrived free on the 'Navarino'. No record on the NSW BDM but since Lyon was Jewish he could have had a Jewish wedding. Children were baptised at St. Matthew's. 17/4/1842: Maria 1843: Rosetta 9/4/1848: Leon Archibald 5/1/1851: Mary Ann 10/6/1855: Rachael - who died nine months later. 1847 Census: Lyon Abrahams was at George Street, Windsor. 1858: Lyon Abrahams died at Windsor and was listed as 74 years of age.
