Samuel ACKERLEY was convicted at Chester, England on 19 April 1830 for obtaining goods by false pretence. Gaol report: "bad, twice convicted before". 7 yr transportation sentence. Hulk report: orderley. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Persian' arriving there 7 Nov 1830. Single man. Colony of VDL: Assigned to Public Works 1831: stealing, in the Prison Barracks. Committed for trial. Sentence extended by 3 yrs. 1833: Gross insolence - 50 lashes. 1834: Stealing a meal. Discharged. 1840: Free Certificate issued, no. 382. APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 7 Mar 1836 - Samuel ACKERLEY (per 'Persian') to Mary WILDON.
