Convict Notes

I want to correct your info about the China, but I can't see how to submit it apart from adding to a convict's record. I have read the Ship's Surgeon's report ADM 101/17/2 at the National Archives in Kew. The ship sailed only to Norfolk Island, not Van Diemen's Land. She reached N.I. on 16 May 1846.

The ship 'China' did indeed sail to Norfolk Island, arriving 16/5/1846 (departing Woolwich 7/1/1846).200 passengers, 199 disembarked at N.I. Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) had records (& administration?) of these convicts. He had been convicted of striking his Colonel of the 55th Regiment & desertion. Emanuel Ackroyd left Norfolk Island and went to Van Diemen's Land (per the 'Pestongee Bomangee'), arriving there May 1847. Details recorded on arrival VDL: single man; aged 29yrs; soldier/labourer; Roman Catholic; 6'1 3/4"; sallow complexion; light brown hair; Hazel eyes. Native Place: nr Halifax. The above link to Tas Archives gives details of his Conduct Record. Ticket of Leave 21/08/1855 Conditional Pardon 01/12/1857 (P.S. There is also a city of Devonport in north west Tasmania.)
