HAMILTON: this vessel has brought 6 male prisoners from India, destined for Port Jackson; to which place it is expected she will sail to-morrow. Hobart Town Gazette, 24 May 1817. Ship News. On Thursday arrived from Calcutta, via Derwent, the ship Mary, Captain Ormon, with a various cargo. -Passengers from Calcutta, Captain Faithfull and Lieutenant Hamilton:-The Mary sailed from Calcutta the 23d of February, and left the Pilot the 1st of March. David Brown, and Elizabeth Adam, were indicted upon seven different charges theft, committed in and about Dundee—having been also previously convicted of theft. Brown pleaded Guilty to the two first charges, and acknowledged having been previously convicted. Elizabeth Adam acknowledged the 6th charge and previous conviction. The other charges having been passed from, and the libel restricted by his Majesty’s Advocate—the Lord Justice Clerk, after impressive admonition, sentenced the panels to 7 year’s transportation. Monday, Dec. 3.—Elizabeth Adams was committed for stealing muslin and other articles from her master, W. Sorell, Esq. The Tasmanian, 7 Dec 1827. Elizabeth Adams for stealing 1 ½ yards muslin, and other articles, the property of W. Sorell, Esq —Guilty. The Tasmanian, 18 Jan 1828. MAY 7.—The Court having met this morning at 10 o'clock, and the following prisoners having been brought up to receive judgment, His Honor the Chief Justice, in a feeling and emphatic manner, proceeded to pass sentence as follows: viz: Seven years: Elizabeth Adams. The Tasmanian, 9 May 1828. --------------------------------------------------- She became free by servitude, but again, in 1835, was sentenced to be transported for 7 years. ------------------------------------------------------ Elizabeth Adams, a free woman, charged with stealing a gold ring value 10s., the property of Mrs. James Smith, guilty— 7 years. The True Colonist, 2 Mar 1835. ------------------------------------------------------ Hobart Town Police Report. Saturday, November 3. Elizabeth Adams was charged with pilfering two bottles of gin from her master's stores. This unhappy creature appears innately bad, for she arrived here per ship Mary, in 1823, and has received three colonial sentences of 7 years each. For this offence her existing sentence was extended two years, and closely confined in the Factory for six mouths on probation. The Hobart Town Courier, 9 Nov 1838.
