Bathurst Quarter Sessions, Thursday November 1. Maurice Adams was put to the bar, charged with stealing on the 26th July, a pair of boots, the property of James Sturzaker. The evidence in this case was of a most conclusive character. The prosecutor swore to having seen the prisoner lurking about the premises an hour or two before he missed the boots. On his apprehension by the chief Constable the property was found in his possession. He gave two or three contradictory accounts of the manner in which he became possessed of them. Verdict — guilty. Sentenced to six months hard labour on the roads. Prisoner observed that he had already suffered three months imprisonment and had thereby sufficiently expiated his offence supposing he had stolen a whole cartload of boots.
