John stole a jar of strawberry jam worth 1 shilling (Sussex Advertiser). He used the name John Wesley Ade Thomas or 'John Thomas' in NSW. He married Esther Jane Head in 1855 in Maitland and had 3 children and 21 grandchildren. His son William Henry was also a bootmaker. By the 1880s the family lived in Sydney. John remarried to Amelia Ellen Luck in 1896. He is buried at Woronora.
