Convict Notes




Edward AGAR was convicted at Leicester, England on 22 March 1830 for stealing bread and meat. Gaol Report: "has been imprisoned before, orderly". 14 yr transportation sentence imposed. Also charged with stealing a pr of shoes. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Southworth' arriving 19 Oct 1830. Ship Surgeon's report: "flogged on board" Single man. VDL: Assigned to work services in the Colony. Several records of misconduct and punishments. Last noted in 1840. Death: 7 April 1841 - Accidentally drowned whilst crossing on the Bluff Ferry. Notated at Richmond, VDL 1841 on Convict record.
