The relationship between John and Shepherdess must have broken up around 1825. Shepherdess was then in a relationship with John Peisley (Convict, Perseus, 1802) and John was with Sarah Whiley (Convict, Lucy Davidson, 1829). John and Sarah applied for permission to marry but this was initially refused.... Refused 4 May 1839 by Rev. Walpole, Bathurst: John Agland, Guikdford (1). Sarah Whyley, Lucy Davidson. In the colony, John married Shepherdess Wright. John Agland, free, of the parish of Parramatta and Shepherdess Wright, free, of ditto were married in this church by banns this 20th day of Oct 1820 by me George Middleton. John and Shepherdess both signed the register in the presence of Martin Briant who also signed the register and Martha Jamieson who made her X mark. Shepherdess was the daughter of James Wright (First Fleet Convict, Scarborough, 1788) and Ann Guest (Convict, Mary Ann, 1791). John and Shepherdess had three sons, William 1819, James 1822 and John 1823.
