LONDONDERRY ASSIZES. Murder.—James Agnew and Henry Agnew brothers were put on their trial for having on the 13th of June last, at Broagh, near Castledawson, employed one Patrick Toghiil, to take away the life of Henry M‘Williams. The Jury retired, and after remaining in deliberation an hour, returned a verdict of guilty, with a recommendation to mercy. Roscommon and Leitrim Gazette, 6 Aug 1836.

Henry and his elder brother James, hired an assassin, Patrick Toghill, to murder Henry Mc Williams. Henry was 5'5 1/4" tall, brown hair, hazel eyes, with a couple of moles in his inside arm and a dark speck in his right eye. C 1837 Henry was assigned to John Bray, in the district of Goulburn. Married to Catherine Scullin/Scullion in Ireland, they had 4 sons, Hugh 1830, Adam 1832, Edward 1834 and James 1836. 18/12/1849: Catherine and sons, Adam, Edward and James arrived per "Success". Son Hugh and his wife Ellen, who were sponsored by Henry , arrived in 1858 aboard the ship "Mary Pleasants". 1843: TOL Bungonia 24/1/1845: TOL Passport 21/12/1846: TOL Passport 20/2/1849: CP Henry obtained a property known as "The Corner" at Numeralla. Bailliers Post Office Directory's entries for Numeralla for 1867 and 1878-79 record Henry Agnew as 'squatter' and Adam, Edward and James as 'farmers'. 22/3/1884: Henry died at Cooma, NSW and was buried at the Mittagong Cemetery. Catherine b 1791 and died 10/1/1884 at Cooma is buried with Henry.

Convicted for accessory to murder wiht his brother, James Agnew. Both were sentenced to hang on August 10 1836. Sentence commuted to transportation - life sentence. Ticket of Leave - Conditional pardon granted 30 Dec 1843.
