Abigail Murphy and Catherine Ahern, for stealing a piece of Calico from Thomas Lyons & Co.—Guilty. To be transported for 7 years. One of the prisoners screeched out for her little child to accompany her to Botany Bay. The other with equal vociferation called for her Cloak which had been taken from her by the Peace-Officer. Southern Reporter, 8 April 1828.
ADM 101/17/3A1828 Medical journal of the female convict ship City of Edinburgh for 14 June to 27 November 1828 by William Anderson, during which time the said ship was transporting female convicts to New South Wales. Folio 4: Catherine Ahern, aged 22, prisoner; sick or hurt, child birth; put on sick list, 14 September 1828. Discharged 5 October 1828 well. Folio 14: Surgeon's general remarks. Temperature readings for June - November 1828. Voyage took 142 days. No deaths to report. Landed one more person than embarked. A child being born on the passage. There were six children at their mother's breasts during this voyage and these women appeared to suffer more from debility than the others their provisions being scanty and the children not having any allowance. I endeavoured to remedy this by allowing them some of the medical comforts in my charge.
