Alexander Ainslie was transported on the Roslin Castle (Roslyn Castle), departing 12th Aug 1828 and arriving 16th Dec 1828 with 176 passengers.

Children of convicts were also transported but considered "free settlers" and not listed by name. The 1832/33 & 1835/36 voyages do not yet have complete lists of passengers - currently being updated. Alexander Ainslie was convicted at Glasgow 16 April 1828 for housebreaking. Previous offence for stealing a watch. Father & mother living in Glasgow. John Ainslie, Sherriff's Officer. Single man; aged 21yrs; 5'8 1/2". Native place: Gargunnock, Scotland. Assignments of service in Colony. Conditional Pardon no. 1556 1 Feb 1838. Children: Baptisms 6 May 1839- Alexander and John - sons of Alexander and Sarah Ainslie. Father listed as a farmer at Black Brush.

Alexander married Emma Sarah Curren 6 Oct 1836 in Hobart Tasmania They had 4 children 2 Sons and 2 daughters. the daughters dying at an early age. Alexander was a ferryman on the Derwent River in 1842, owned a lime burning vessel 'The Jane' in 1846, ship owner of the schooner 'Clarence'1n 1848. He and his partner gathered Guano from the islands of Bass Strait. There was later a legal battle with his partner. Alexander was my Great Great Grandfarther and I wish I could find out more on his wife Emma Sarah.
