Convict Notes
Richard Beards and Henry Allen, for breaking into and stealing from the dwelling house of John Flecknoe, at Harbury; Aris’s Birmingham Gazette, 14 April 1817. Sunday night the 17th inst. the following were removed from the gaol of this town on board the Bellerophon, at Sheerness to be transported to New South Wales :— Henry Allen, Richard Beards, .rd Hunter, John Buggins, John Idhouse, Ward, Joseph larvey, William Smith, George Treday, John Moore, William Barron, for fourteen years—Sailliam Sheffield, for seven years. Aris’s Birmingham Gazette, 26 May 1817.
Henry Allen was in Moreton Bay Penal establishment. The records show: he was 5 ft 61/2 tall, age 31, had a dark complexion, dark hair and hazel eyes. The date of his original conviction at Warwick was 1 April 1817, and the sentence was 14 years. He was a carpenter and left Moreton Bay for Sydney 9 October 1826. As a Crown prisoner, he was employed as a carpenter at Moreton Bay, which was still under construction, with several other men "Preparing work for the Erection and finishing of buildings etc 8 Henry Allen – carpenter 9 William Grady (Asia 2)– carpenter 10 Daniel Baker (Asia) – carpenter 11 Michael Bennett (Chapman)– carpenter 12 William Taylor (Agamemnon)– carpenter. This information was was on a quarterly return of prisoners for the period 25 Dec 1825 to 25 March 1826.
