Convicted at Abingdon August 1802. His certificate of freedom in 1809 (issued in 1810) makes reference to him being missed off the original ship's indent for Fortune, arriving 1806 and an affidavit was taken to swear that he did have a 7 year sentence. Joseph becomes a landholder on Pitt Street and from c.1815 onwards was in a common law relationship with Mary Ford (Mary Shipley/Shepley of Earl Cornwallis).
