Robert ALLISON came free to Australia from Glasgow, Scotland. He was convicted at Launceston, Tasmania on 30 Sept 1856 for stealing a shawl and other items in a bag from a Thomas Gleeson. 2 yr imprisonment sentence. Aged 25yrs; labourer; 5'9"; fresh complexion; dk hair; grey eyes; married man. Native place of birth: Glasgow, Scotland. At the time of offence, the newspaper reports that Robert Allison was a watch house keeper at Evandale, Tasmania. Station Gang: Prison Barracks, Hobart. 11 April 1857: at Port Arthur Penal Settlement - escaping from place of labour. 18mths imprisonment, with hard labour (first 6,mths to be undergone in chains). 17 April 1857: Port Arthur - disobedience of orders. Reprimand. 24 June 1857: Port Arthur - profane language. 5 days solitary confinement. 30 July 1857: Port Arthur - disobedience of orders. 14 days solitary confinement. 19 Feb 1858: Port Arthur - neglect of duty. 10 days solitary confinement. 6 Oct 1858: Prison Barracks, Hobart. 8 Oct 1858: Freedom (A Robert Allison, aged 22 yrs, arrived in Tasmania from Melbourne, Victoria in 1854 on the ship 'Tasmania'. ref.
