DNA matching has been able to prove that Thomas Allsop and Joseph Barker were different people. Joseph Barker married Jane Keating in 1943 and in 1851 were living on the Western Goldfields, Jane returned to Sydney with the death of her father and partnered with Thomas Allsop around 1853. Thomas and Jane never married.

Thomas John Allsopp was 18 years old when convicted of "Stealing 1 pair of shoes" value 5s., the property of Robert Lownds. 1837 Muster: Assigned to Thomas Rose at Mt. Gilead. Then assigned to J. Henderson, Cooks River. Absconded from Mr Henderson 28/2/1838, apprehended 10/10/1838, then absconded again and apprehended on 13/2/1839. 24/4/1840: COF Lived in the Ashfield area up until 1860 then moved to Bathurst/Sofala/Orange areas where he worked as a tinplate worker on the goldfields. IT IS SAID that Thomas married Mary Ridgely (Mary 1835) and had 2 children, and then changed his name to Joseph Barker to disguise his past and to marry Jane Keating, a free settler in 1843. Thomas and Jane had 7 children. 22/9/1891: Thomas died, aged 76 at the Sydney Hospital of Bronchitis and is buried at Rookwood Cemetery, Lidcombe NSW.
