Convict Notes
The Tasmanian Archives and newspapers definitely have Thomas recorded as "Almet" - I guess another alais. I could not find a record of death in Tasmania under "Almet" so perhaps he reverted to another name or moved to another state. Thank you for additional information.
Thomas Almet was convicted at London (crime not known) 17 May 1809 and given a Life sentence. He was first transported to New South Wales, per 'Ann' and then to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Union', arriving there 1 Jan 1810. Convict no. 33810. Colonial offences: Dec 1821 - Steal sheep - to forfeit Ticket of Leave. 26 Apr 1821 - Absent from Gang. 23 Jun 1823 - Not assisting Overseer of Constables to apprehend persons in act of absconding - 25 lashes. 21 Apr 1824 - Disobedience of orders - 25 lashes. 23 Nov 1826 - Out after hours. 3 Dec 1826 - Assault T. Dixon, freeman - discharged, no prosecution. 26 Apr 1828 - Idleness & insolence - T. Wheel 3 days. Conditional Pardon no. 796 26 Feb 1836 Free Pardon no. 465 30 Jul 1839
This convict is actually Thomas HOLMIT alias Lacey Thomas Anderson. Transported for Housebreaking, sentenced to death, aged 15, but transported instead.
