Originally from Westmorland, England (Westmorland and Lancashire were both counties, so "Westmoreland, Lancashire" is impossible). Acquitted of larceny at Lancaster Summer Quarter Session 1825. Convicted of housebreaking at Lancaster Quarter Session Summer 1826. Sent to Preston gaol, and on August 2 1826 was imprisoned to the hulk Ganymede, moored in Chatham harbour. His age was given as 20. As this is the earliest record perhaps it is the most reliable. Discharged from the Ganymede on November 4 1826, for transportation. I think the height on his arrival in NSW is shown as 5' 1¾". On his Certificate of Freedom (July 24 1833) his date of birth was given as 1810, his heght as 5' 2", his complexion 'Fair Ruddy', his hair brown, and his eyes blue. Convicted of larceny at Parramatta October 2 1843 and sentenced to two months' imprisonment there. His date of birth was given as 1815, his height as 5' 0", his make 'slight' and his complexion 'sallow'. His daughter Sarah Matilda Jane was born in 1847 so he cannot have died in 1844.
