Jane Anderson (also k/a McIntosh) was convicted at Perth, Scotland on 24 Sept 1849 for theft. Previous convictions. 10yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Baretto Junior' arriving 25 July 1850. Married woman (widow)6 or 4 children (records gives conflicting numbers); aged 41yrs; housemaid; can read; Protestant. Native place - Montrose Sisters - Jessie & Margaret Brothers - Alexander & Richard Husband - Chaplain advised her husband had died Sept last year (1849). Assignments in Colony. Some notes of misconduct. Ticket of leave granted 24 Oct 1854 Conditional Pardon granted 9 June 1857 Application for permission to marry: 23 Sept 1856 to Patrick Joyce. Married Patrick Joyce (free) 15 Oct 1856 at St. George's Church, Sorell, Tas. Jane's aged listed as 37yrs, widow. Patrick a labourer, aged 45yrs. (No note on record as to what happened to her children - not placed in Orphanage, VDL)
