Stephen's first cousin Francis Anderson also arrived in NSW as a convict about 6 weeks after him on the John 4
Bury and Norwich Post Suffolk, England 16 Mar 1836 At Hertford Assizes, James Anderson, James Robinson, and Henry Edwards were convicted of stealing, and Stephen Anderson, farmer and carrier, and Charles Moreton, publican, of feloniously receiving a a quantity of corn, the propert of Mr. C. B. Johnson, of Barkway, near Royston. The three first were sentenced to 2 years' hard labour; Stephen Anderson, who had been previously convicted of felony, to be transported for 14 years, and Moreton for 7 years. A great number of depredations are supposed to have been committed by the gang in that neighbourhood. No ship found for Charles Moreton. Stephen Anderson is a first cousin to Francis Anderson (John 1837). Stephen was listed as 49 years old on arrival. Native place: Therfield, Hertfordshire. Stephen could read, was married with 2 male and 1 female children, 5'7¼" tall, brown and freckled complexion, brown mixed with grey hair, brown eyes, lost two upper front teeth, arms freckled. Assigned to John W. Kerr, Bathurst. 4/3/1843: TOL Bathurst. Father: John Mother: Mary Free 9/2/1807: Married Martha Thurley at Royston, Hertfordshire. Children: 1807: John 1808: James 1809: Jane 1811: Stephen 1815: William 1818: Stephen 1820: Betsey 1823: Charles 1825: Marianne 1829: Josiah Wife, Martha, and daughter Mary Ann arrived in 1843. Sons, James and Charles and family arrived in 1855 and grandson John with wife and stepson arrived in 1866. There is a death for Martha Anderson, aged 69 and died in 1853, listed on NSW BDM. 13/6/1854: Married Rachel Jones/Richards at Kelso, NSW. (Listed as Richards on NSW BDM). 29/3/1862: Stephen Anderson died at Kelso, NSW.
