Robberies. —On Saturday, Dennis Andrews, of Addingham, was committed to the House of Correction, charged with breaking into the shop of Mr. Mason, shoemaker, Embsay, and stealing thereout quantity of shoes. The manner in which this thief was discovered highly creditable to the police or Keighley. He visited the fair, and as be passed two of the police, one of them observed that he was suspicious character, when he immediately ran off, and while they were pursuing him, he threw out of his pocket a shoe which proved to be one that was stolen out of Mr. Mason’s shop, the other having been left therein. Leeds Intelligencer, 21 May 1829. Dennis Andrews, James Laycock, and John Bland, were convicted of breaking open a workshop at Embsey, near Skipton, and stealing a quantity leather, and a number of pairs of shoes, the property of Mr, Jonathan Mason.—Andrews and Laycock were severally transported for seven years, and Bland was sentenced to be imprisoned to six months hard labour in the House of Correction. The following seventeen male convicts were removed from York Castle on Friday, to be delivered on board the Retribution Hulk, Sheerness, viz Mark Anderson, James Metcalfe, James Whiteley, Jonathan Akeroyd, Dennis Andrews, James Laycock, William Marshall, Thomas Thompson, William Dickinson, Thomas Glover, William Hough, Joseph Pickering, Sheffield Independent, 15 Aug 1829. -------------------------------------------------------------- Tasmanian Records.
