10/1/1831 Morning Post London, England: MIDDLESEX SESSIONS.—George and Francis Ansell, two young men, brothers, who were rather respectably attired, were then placed at the bar, charged with stealing a pocket -handkerchief from the person of Edward Johnston Manley, on the 15 of December, at the Mermaid Tavern, Hackney, when the Prosecutor was attending the County Meeting which was held at the place above mentioned. Mr. Manley having stated that he missed the handkerchief on the occasion in question, a constable was produced, who deposed that he saw the Prisoner, George Ansell, put his hand into the pocket of the Prosecutor, remove the handkerchief, and hand it to his brother, who was seen by one of the Headboroughs to drop it on the step leading to the door of entrance. They were both immediately found Guilty. George Ansell was also on board. Francis Ansell was listed as 20 years old on arrival. Native Place; Castleton, Surrey. Francis was literate, single, protestant, 5'7" tall, dark brown hair and eyes, long arms. 1832 Muster: Assigned to Mr. D. Dalrymple. 1833 Muster: Assigned to Mr. Dawson. 13/11/1834: Campbell/Stealing one ewe sheep and one wedder sheep, the property of James Mackersey, committed for trial. 1835 Muster: Transported to Port Arthur. 3/9/1840: Permission to marry Mary Loughram (Hindostan). 5/10/1840: Married Mary Loughram at the Evandale School House, marriage registered at Launceston. Mary was 18, Francis was 26. Children: ANSELL GEORGE 1841 ANSELL FRANCIS 1842 ANSELL ALICE 1844 d 17/1/1845 ANSELL CHARLES 1849 ANSELL HARRIETT 1850 ANSELL ALLEN LINGHAM 1854 6.9.1851: Was the licensee of the Trafalgar Inn, at Evandale - renewal of license application refused. 1852: License again refused - 23/2/1856: Fined £50 and costs for selling rum without a license at Norfolk Plains East. 9/4/1856: Insolvency. 5/9/1860: Selling the Tasmanian Inn, Perth, Tas. 19/1/1861: Francis Ansell, of Perth, Licensed Victualler - Insolvent. 19/9/1874: Harriet Emmeline, second daughter of Mr Francis Ansell, of Melbourne, formerly of Perth, Tasmania married Michael Donahoo of Westbury. 25/6/1892: Leader, Melbourne, Vic: ANSELL.__On the 16th June, at his son-in-law's residence, Mr. W. Hopkins, 44 Anderson-street, Richmond, Francis Ansell, in his 80th year, the beloved father of Mr. George Ansell, &c., of Gipps-street, Collingwood. A colonist of 60 years. 2/2/1895 Leader, Melbourne, Victoria: ANSELL.__On the 23rd January, at her late residence, No. 24 Ferguson-street, Abbotsford, Mary, relict of the late Francis Ansell, aged 76 years.
