CORN STEALING. William Apps, charged on suspicion of breaking open and entering the barn of Edward Toker, in the parish of Ospringe, on the 24th day of January last, and stealing therefrom six bushels of beans. Mr. Mansuam detailed the case . Mr. Toker is a gentleman of considerable property; and the barn door had been locked. on evening in the prisoner was in his employ as waggoner’s mate. question by Holland, the bailiff, who left two sacks of beaus in the barn; the next morning he missed six bushels out of them, and suspecting some of  the servants must have stolen them for the purpose of feeding the horses, he placed a person in an out-house to watch where it was ascertained the beans had been deposited. About half past, ten o'clock  prisoner and a boy, who had been admitted as an evidence for the prosecution, made their appearance, and just as they were in the act of removing the person who had been waiting for their arrival pounced upon both and secured them. William Trice, an, accomplice, examined.—On the 24th of January was in Mr. Toker's service as second boy; prisoner was also in the same service as waggoner's mate ; both agreed to take the beans for the use of their master's horses; witness went to the small door of the barn, then opened the large  doors, and admitted the prisoner ; it was about half-past ten o'clock night ; took with them a candle and lanthorn   afterwards beans in a waggon lodge; and broke part of the door, Co give it the appearance of having been forced. The circumstances of the apprehension of the prisoner and witness were then detailed by a person named Silver, who  made capture of the prisoner and his. companion... The Chairman then summed up and Jury returned a verdict of Guilty.  Kentish Weekly Post, 11 April 1826.
