Mary kearns is recorded as a landholder in subsequent muster records. However, there is no further mention of Jonas. Mary married an assigned convict, William Chalker and had a number of children. Her will dated 24th September 1825 gave instructions that she be interred in St John's Parramatta in the same tomb as her young son - (Section 2, N 11), the epitaph, reading... Sacred to the Memory of JAMES ARCHER who departed this life June 2nd 1800 Aged 5 years.

Jonas does have several entries in the 1800-02 Musters: [Ref AF819 page 69] Jonas Archer, TL number 812. [Ref AF820 page 69] Mary Kearns, TL number 813. Consecutive entries in the muster. There are two entries which pertain to his holdings: [Ref AA375 page 13] and [Ref AG264 page 81]; These show total land holdings of about 125 acres with 52 acres cleared, 33 of wheat and 15 of maize, 80 pigs and 3 horses. He has 40 bushels of wheat and 700 bushels of maize in store and it is noted that his wife and a child are off stores. Jonas has clearly somehow gathered a very large landholding. He also has two other mentions for convict servants working for him: [Ref AC270 page 32] Philip Tully of Earl Cornwallis and [Ref AD283 page 40] Joseph Cliff of Hillsborough, both being assigned. However, it is about this stage that Jonas deeds all his holdings to Mary Kearns and leaves the colony. It is supposed that he had large debts and in order to evade this, he 'ran away'.

Jonas arrived in the colony on the "Atlantic" as part of the Third Fleet. He appears to have commenced a de-facto relationship with Mary Kearns (Irish Convict, 1793, "Sugar Cane") soon after her arrival.
