Trial date: 18 Oct 1850 Offense: Feloniously stabbing John Higgins with intent to do some grievious etc. Verdict: Guilty Colonial Times. Tue 22 Oct 1850. Page 2. HOBART TOWN—CRIMINAL COURT. Ruth Argee was charged with stabbing on the 4th instant, john Higgins, with intent to do him some grievous bodily harm. The prosecutor and the prisoner had been keeping company and had agreed to be married, but the prosecutor broke off the acquaintance and married another, which excited the wrath of the prisoner. On the day in question, the prisoner went to the prosecutor and had a quarrel with him, demanding her things, and in the course of the dispute she took up a pair of scissors and stabbed him in the belly. The jury found her Guilty of the assault, and recommended her to mercy. His Honor then passed the sentence of two months' imprisonment on her, requesting her to calm down that violent temper or serious consequences would yet befell her 1853 - 25 Dec 1853 - Absconded
