Garrett Armstrong was tried and convicted at Supreme Court, Sydney, Australia (details not known). Life sentence. It appears Garrett was first transported to Australia on the 'Recovery' to New South Wales. To Van Diemens Land on the 'Prince Leopold' 1819. 18/07/1821: Drunk & disorderly - confined on bread & water. Gaol at nights for a month. 30/03/1824: Without a pass going to Coal River - 25 lashes. 16/04/1825: Returned to P.W., being at Coal River working for himself with the permission of his Master. 20/10/1827: Absent from his Gang - Chain Gang 14 days. 18/03/1828: Drunk & disorderly - 2 days Tread Mill. 10/04/1828: Absent - Chain Gang 1mth. 7 days Tread Wheel. 01/12/1828: Abscond - Chain Gang 7 days. 13/05/1831: Neglect of duty/Drunk & disorderly - 50 lashes. 21/01/1834: Drunkeness - 1 hour in the Stocks. 06/03/1835: Drunk & disorderly - Fined 5/- 1830 - 1833: Assigned to Miss McLeod. 1835: Ticket of Leave "Struck off records"
