Marriage Record for Hobart Town District, 1817. : https://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD36-1-1p54j2k Joseph Arnold, age 45, convict, per Indian, and Ann Foster, convict, per Alexander, age 27, were married 1st January 1817 by Banns. Both signed their X. Witness, James Morresby also signed his X. -------------------------------------------------- Joseph's wife, Ann Foster's Conduct record lists her as a "widow of Arnold", on an entry dated 13 March 1826, when she was punished for being drunk and disorderly, so his death was sometime between his marriage and 13 March 1826.




Joseph Arnold was on a List of 40 male convicts embarked on the Brig Kangaroo for the Derwent. 13th April 1816. No. 21, Joseph Arnold, Indian, Convicted at Suffolk Ass., 11 Aug 1808, Sentence - Life, Baker. At the Suffolk Assizes, thirteen prisoners appeared upon the calendar, of whom only one was capitally convicted, viz. Joseph Arnold, for burglariously breaking into the dwelling-house of Israel Abrahams, of Ipswich, and stealing thereout sundry articles. Kentish Gazette, 23 Aug 1808
Joseph Arnold was transferred to van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Kangaroo', arriving 28 April 1816. He was convict no. 1491. Offences committed in the colony: 15/9/1817 - assault and threat to beat Henry M Cole. Extra labor 1 week and confined at night. 14/11/1817 - stealing boards from the property of the Crown - 100 lashes and extra hard labor 3mths. 27/11/1818 Stealing in H.M. Timber yard 6 pieces of 1/2" Huon Pine boards - 50 lashes and to work the same hours as the Gaol Gang 1 mth and to be confined at night. 6/8/1819 Abusive language and threat to H. Rayner, Storekeeper - 50 lashes. Died Tasmania (no date on conduct record) Tasmanian Archives ref.
