Native place, Hexton, near Newmarket, stout made, Free Cert 1828/288, 9 Aug 1828. Conduct Record: No 129. William Arnold, Transported for petit Larceny. Gaol report, ??? ( too faint to read) Hulk report Orderly. Stated wife and 4 children at Soham, Cambridge. Mother at Exton* near Newmarket. (His native place is more likely to have been Exning, a village near Newmarket, in Suffolk, not Hexton, Hertfordshire)- this may have been noted down incorrectly, due to his accent, and being unfamiliar with the area around Soham) See record for details of his conduct .
The following is an account of the trials of the gang at the late assizes held for this county George Isaacson, Edward Isaacson, Wm. Worlledge, Richard Cater, James Bailey, Henry Bailey, and William Arnold, were severally indicted for stealing, in April 1819, Snailwell in this county, bushels of barley, the property of Mr. Charles Filbey, and acquitted. ... William Arnold, convicted of stealing a wooden measure from Mr. Dobede, in whose employment he had previously been engaged as a maltster, whereby he had acquired full knowledge of the situation of the offices belonging to the malt-house, was also sentenced to transported for seven years. ... The following are sentences of the prisoners who have so long infested Soham and neighbouring villages:—William Day, sentence death. Thomas Isaacson, George Isaacson, James Bailey, William West, Edward Isaacson, Henry Attlesey, John Attlesey, William Worlledge, William  Arnold, Samuel Wright the elder, Samuel Wright the younger, and John Thurston, to be transported seven years. ..
