LINCOLN, MARCH 18. The only criminals left by the Judge for execution were Ward and Arsnip, for robbing Mr. Hudson. A respite has been since obtained for Arsnip, in consequence of a promise made to him by Mr. Fydell, the Magistrate who committed him, that if would confess, he should be admitted King's evidence, which he consequently did but his evidence not being found to be necessary, they were both tried upon the same indictment and both fully convicted. Ward, it is expected, will be executed to morrow. Arsnip's sentence will most probably be remitted to transportation. The evidence given on their trial was perhaps as well connected and as strongly corroborating as any ever given in a court of justice. Mr. Hudson could not, from the darkness of the evening, identify their persons but his watch and spectacles being found upon them, together with other evidence tracing almost to the place where the robbery was committed, fixed the guilt so strongly that not a doubt could remain in the mind of the most scrupulous. Stamford Mercury, 19 March 1790.
