Coventry Police Office. Thursday. Before Mr. Hawkes. Joseph Payne and John Asbury were brought on suspicion of having committed a felony in the house of Charles Price, the Red Lion, in Hertford-street, and remanded for further examination. Coventry Standard, 1 Feb 1839. Coventry Assizes. Joseph Payne, aged 24, and John Ashbury, aged 21, wore charged with stealing a time-piece, value and other articles, the property of Charles Price, of the Red Lion, Hertford-street. Sentenced to 14 years transportation. Coventry Standard, 29 Mar 1839.
