Joseph Ashby was 19 years old on arrival in NSW and was transported for stealing a basket of raisins from a merchant in Colchester in 1831, along with Thomas balls, who was found not guilty. He was the son of Joseph Ashby and Lydia Hardy. 1838: TOL Joseph was 5’2” tall, fair complexion, light brown hair and blue eyes. Joseph was working for Henry Donnison on the Central Coast, as a farm hand. He met Charlotte Webb, the daughter of James Webb an early settler, and an aboriginal woman. 2/4/1845: Joseph and Charlotte were married at East Kincumber, NSW, and had 9 children. Joseph was 32 and Charlotte 22. 11/12/1864: Joseph died and was buried at Blue Gum Flat Cemetery (Lisarow).
