Family connections for Christopher (Ashe) are: ASHE Christopher (Ash/e) married Eleanor (Welsh) in Ireland. He must have joined the military & possibly fought in War between French (Napoleon) & Spain. He was tried at Isle de Leon, Spain, Court Martial, sentenced to 14years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 1 1812 after a voyage of 5months on GUILDFORD. In 1817 he was assistant to stores at Parramatta. He was issued his Ticket of Leave; then his Absolute Pardon on 31 1 1818 at Sydney. He died on 7 7 1828 age72 & was buried at St Marys RC Sydney. [Some details taken from this Website] Eleanor (Welsh) arrived in NSW with her children following her husband on 10 1 1814 on HMS KANGAROO; she was Protestant. She is recorded in 1828 as householder with some children at Sussex St Sydney. Christopher (Ash) & Eleanor/Ellen (Welsh) produced 5children: 1.Catherine (Ash) was born in 1796 probably in Ireland. She arrived in NSW with her mother on 10 1 1814 on HMS KANGAROO. She married William Henry (Fishburn his second marriage) on 7 8 1816 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced at least 9children. She is recorded in 1828 with her family at Baulkham Hills. ..William Henry (Fishburn) was born on 28 7 1795 & baptised on 6 9 1795 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He had a first relationship with Mary (Arlow/Harlowe her first relationship). He was recorded in 1826 as farmer at Baulkham Hills & as settler there in 1827. He was recorded in 1828 as publican at Baulkham Hills & later in muster 1828 with his family as publican Baulkham Hills. He was recorded in 1829 as farmer a Baulkham Hills. She married William (Tooley} emancipist baker on 5 3 1827 at St Phillips CofE Sydney & produced 3children. She is recorded in 1828 living with her mother at Sussex St/Lane Sydney. Her surname may have changed in 1832 to (Johnson). ..William (Tooley) was born about 1796 & became a baker. He was tried w/2others for stealing a watch etc, on 19 9 1814, of Rice (Ives) at Old Bailey on 25 10 1814, sentenced to Life, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 18 1 1816 after a voyage of 5months on FANNY. He was Free by Servitude by 1827 & was a baker in 1827, but was recorded in 1828 in gaol. He was a baker in 1830. He changed his surname in 1832 to (Johnson). Sainty & Johnson; 1828 Census of New South Wales: [Ref A0615] Ash, Eleanor, 50, came free, Kangaroo 1814, Protestant, householder, Sussex Street Sydney. [Ref A0616] Ash, Christopher, 25, came free, Kangaroo 1814, Protestant. [Ref A0617] Ash Henry, 14, BC, Apprentice to Joseph Anderson, Pitt St. Two daughters are also located: [Ref F0530] Fishburn, Catherine married to William Henry Fishburne, they had a family of 8 at the time and her husband was a publican at Baulkham Hills.. [Ref T1012] Tooley, Hannah, married to William Tooley (Convict, Fanny, 1816) # He was in Gaol at the Census. No record of the other son, William can be located.

Christopher was as assistant in the Stores at Parramatta in 1817. He petitioned for mitigation of his sentence at this time. Christopher had been granted his ticket of leave and an absolute pardon was granted on 31 Jan 1818 at Sydney. Christopher died in July 1828, prior to the census.

Christopher was already married before his Court Martial and transportation. He had married Eleanor (Ellen) Welsh in the UK. The couple had 4 children prior to the transportation. Catherine 1796, William 1800, Christopher 1803 and Hannah 1806. Eleanor and the 4 children followed Christopher, via the brig 'Kangaroo' which arrived in the colony in 1814. The couple subsequently had another child, Henry James 1815.
