John left a wife and two children behind in England. They both went on to remarry.
John Aspinall born 2 FEB 1804 Doncaster, Yorkshire, England son of John Aspinall and Ann Dodson. Baptised 12 FEB 1804 Arksey, Yorkshire, England Parish Church. He married Sarah Hatfield 7 Aug 1826 in Rotherham, Yorkshire and they had two children William Henry b1830 and Jane Ann 1833. He was convicted Michaelmass 1833 of larceny as James (alias John)- unknown why he used the name James because he had a younger brother James. from: Record England & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892 sentence 7 years. Possible earlier larceny arrest under the name John in Midsummer session 1833 acquitted - can't prove this is the same person. He was sent to the Prison Hulk Fortitude moored in Chatham on 23 Nov 1833. Entry #187 age 29 stealing sundry articles convicted 23 Oct 1833 Sheffield, disposed of: 17 May 1834 (from UK, Prison Hulk Registers and Letter Books, 1802-1849) Transported on the Roslin Castle 22 May 1834. On 10th Apr 1841 he married Margaret Jane Starr in Sydney (she was from Ireland) and they had five children: Emma b1842, John George b1843, Mary Ann b1845, Annie b1848, James b1852 all born Sydney, NSW. He died 14 Feb 1874 in Sydney. It is assumed that a formal annulment of his English marriage to Sarah must have taken place because she married John Broadbent on 10 Apr 1834 in Rotherham, Yorkshire, one month before he was transported.
