James Asplin was convicted of cutting and wounding with intent to cause grievious bodily harm - whilst out poaching. 15yr sentence. Also convicted with John Elsome, on board ship. Transported to Norfolk Island and Van diemen's Land on the 'Agincourt'. Farm labourer/ploughman; 23yrs of age; single; C of E; reads; 5'6"; fresh complexion; lt brown hair; lt grey eyes. Native Place: nr Bedford. Arrived Norfolk Island 9/11/1844. Transferred to Van Diemen's Land 9/10/1846. 1848: engaged as Constable at Campbell Town, Tas. An application for permission to marry Winifred McNamara (per Arabian) 10/07/1849 however refused. (I could not find a record of a marriage on BDM index.) Ticket of Leave 23/09/1850. Revoked 29/3/1853 for being abscent from Muster.
