James Astill was transported on the Andromeda, departing 13th Nov 1832 and arriving 11th Mar 1833 with 188 passengers.
Also, same day, from Cork, whence she sailed May 25th, the ship Andromeda, 401 tons, Benjamin Gales master, with 173 female prisoners; Henry Kelsawl, Esq., Surgeon-superintendant. Passengers — Fourteen free females, viz. Mary Manning, Martha Morron, Margaret Mahon, Margaret Sheedy, Mary Ann Nixon alias Welsh, Catherine Kiernan, Mary Cassock, Catherine Stanton, Johanna Neville, Mary Lyons alias Hynes, Maria Moran, Catherine O'Donnel, Margaret Kennedy, and Mary Sullivan, and twenty-six children; also twenty-three children belonging to the prisoners. WARWICK BOROUGH SESSIONS. These Sessions were held at the Court House, on Thursday, ... ...James Astill. aged 20, and Samuel Harrison, aged 1?, were found guilty stealing nine ducks, the property of Richard Warner, at Balkington. Both these juvenile offenders had been convicted together at previous Sessions, of similar offence, which the convictions were produced. In reply to Astill’s plea for mercy, the Chairman said, that in order to be merciful to them was in his power, Should sentence them to seven years' transportation : such sentence might probably save them from the gallows.—There was a second indictment against Astill, for stealing hen and chickens, the property of Mr. Thomas Power, of Attleborough but, after the above conviction, was not deemed necessary to proceed with it.
