Jonah Atkins was convicted at Salford on 02/03/1843 of Housebreaking and stealing clothes, the property of Mr. Elliot at Westbury, Wiltshire. (Previous offence for trespass.) 7 yr Transportation sentence. It is assumed that Jonah served time at Bermuda (no record yet) as he left there on 11/04/1848 on the 'Bangalore', arriving in Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) on 14/07/1848. VDL Convict no. 55670. C Class. Aged 29yrs upon arrival, single man, Protestant, could read, Native Place: Westbury, Wiltshire. Father: John. Brothers: John & (?) Sydney. 5'7"; sallow complexion; dark brown hair; black whiskers; grey eyes; 3 moles on left arm. Clear Record in the Colony. 09/06/1848 Ticket of Leave granted. 26/08/1848 Conditional Pardon granted. Record of death of a Jonah Atkins on 05/11/1851 (45/1851-35) Sorell district.
