11/4/1840 Northern Star and Leeds General Advertiser Yorkshire, England: DARING BURGLARIES IN YORKSHIRE George Atkinson, Thomas Atkinson, his brother, a returned transport, John Sanderson, and George Sanderson, his brother, a private in the third battalion of grenadier guards, all young men of athletic make, were brought up in custody of Thomas Ellington Collinson, chief officer of police at Boronghbridge, and Samuel Winn, chief officer of the city and liberty of Ripon, in Yorkshire, and placed at the bar before Mr. Gregorie, the first three prisoners charged with committing four daring burglaries in Yorkshire, each attended with great personal violence, and the last-mentioner prisoner with having received part of the produce of the said robberies, well knowing it to have been stolen..... The prisoners (that is, those charged with the burglaries) have long been known in the North and West Riding of Yorkshire, as daring thieves, and are said to have committed several "crack" robberies in London. John Sanderson and George Atkinson arrived VDL per 'Asia 1841' George Sanderson was on the 'Lady Raffles' with Thomas Atkinson. George Atkinson was listed as 37 years old on arrival - brother of Thomas Atkinson (Lady Raffles) - Born Rockliffe. 1st regiment grenadier guards 5 years. "I purchased my discharge 9 years ago last november, I gave 20 pounds for my discharge. George was 5'11¾" tall, pale complexion, dark brown hair, black inclined to red whiskers, brown eyes, literate, had been a Soldier, blue mark over left eye, breast and arms hairy. Married: Wife Ann at London, a nurse in St Martins hospital, 2 children. Father: Dennis, labourer, Rippon.
