Trade, Nailer. per Guildford 3, Original Conviction, Dublin, Feb 1815, Seven years. ---------------------------------------------------- Edward Brian and John Atkinson were on Saturday last charged before a Bench of Magistrates with stealing six watches in the dwelling-house of John Williamson ; which offence being clearly proved, they were sentenced 100 lashes each, and the former to work 3 years in the gaol gang, and the latter 3 years at Newcastle. Original conviction: Tried at Dublin, Feb 1815, 7 years. -------------------------------------------------- TUESDAY.—John Hatkenson was indicted for a burglary in the dwelling-house of Mr. Wm. Whitfield in George-street, on the 18th of July last. The offence was proved to have been perpetrated ; and a bundle, containing the property stolen, was found in the possession of the prisoner, who was pursued immediately after the robbery by some of the police, and apprehended. In the watch-house the prisoner was searched ; and two pick-locks, with other house breaking implements, were found upon him. The prisoner was declared Guilty.—Remanded. Sydney Gazette, 27 Sep 1822. (His name is mistakenly reported at Hatkenson, not Atkinson in the above report) --------------------------------------------------- John Atkinson was named in the Petition for mitigation of his sentence, by Samuel Lyons, in 1823: ---------------------------------------------------- Petition for Mitigation of sentence, Date 16/4/1823. Tailor. The Humble petition of Samuel Lyons. Most respectfully sheweth the Petitioner arrived in this Colony on the ship Marquis Wellington, having been previously convicted at the Old Bailey, London in February 1814, and under sentence of Transportation for Life. Petitioner since his arrival has conducted himself in an honest, sober and industrious manner, having received from his former good conduct, a ticket of leave. Petitioner has rendered great services to the Police officers, and by indefatigible exertions has been instrumental in the discovery of various offenders, who have been apprehended and convicted in the crimes herein after mentioned, viz: Benjamin Lee, and Henry Phillip for stowing away, James Scott and John Bell, for a robbery in the dwelling house of Mr Philips Cavannah- James Wheatly for a burglary in the dwelling house of Mr Street, in George Street – Edward Stone for a burglary in the dwelling house of Mr Robt. Jenkins – John Atkinson for a burglary and robbery in the dwelling house of Mr G.
