William Attewell (also known as William Edwards) was convicted at Cawnpore, East Indies 3 May 1837 for insubordination - striking an officer and being absent on several occasions. 7yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Guillardon' arriving March 1838. Single man. Had been in the 16th Regiment 4 years. Aged 29yrs; 5'9"; labourer and seaman; Roman Catholic; can read & write. Native place - Becks Hill, Sussex, England. Stated real name is William Edwards. Mother - Jane, at Bradwell (?) Brothers - John & Samuel Sister - Anne Assignments in Colony. Ticket of Leave granted. Free Certificate no. 455 1844
