HO 17/14/41 [1832] 1 collective petition (the prisoner and his father) on behalf of Robert Auld, Shopman, convicted at Edinburgh High Court for theft. There are character references from: Robert B Townshend, Andrew Jack and Francis Wright. Included are: a certificate of employment from Malcolm Griffin; a covering letter to the petition from George Auld, and a certificate of prisoner's infirmity from John Fairhurst. Gaoler's report: character indifferent. Grounds for clemency: he has a weakness of his arm, so cannot carry out severe manual labour, is deeply penitent and contrite and gives solemn assurance of amendment throughout his future life.
