CRIMINAL COURT. James Austin, aged 25, was indicted for feloniously cutting and assaulting Edward Cartwright Middleton, at Chatham, in May last, with a view to do him grievous bodily harm.—The prosecutor, who is shopman to an oilman in Chatham, saw the prisoner one night making a hole in the shutter of a watchmaker's shop on the opposite side of the street, and went over to apprehend him; but the prisoner struck him some blows on the head with a chisel, which cut him to the skull, and deprived him of his senses; but the prisoner was apprehended by other persons.—The jury found him guilty of the assault, and, having been before convicted of felony, he was sentenced to 15 years' transportation.
